Analytic and combinatorial aspects of Arthur’s trace formula

Résumé : The talk will report on recent work on Arthur’s (non-invariant) trace formula, in particular on the proof of the absolute convergence of its spectral side for a natural class of test functions. We will present a combinatorial identity for families of operators which provides a crucial ingredient for the proof of this basic analytic result. We will also discuss the connection to asymptotic questions in spectral theory, such as Weyl’s law. The results are joint work with Erez Lapid and Werner Mueller.
