Complete affine structures and deformations of the three-holed sphere

Résumé : Complete affine structures on 3-manifolds with nonsolvable fundamental group reduce to the study of deformations of complete hyperbolic structures on (necessarily noncompact) surfaces in which all measured laminations lengthen. Using crooked planes, those structures corresponding to hyperbolic surfaces of genus 0 and Euler characteristic -1 are classified. In particular these 3-manifolds are homeomorphic to solid handlebodies of genus two.
