One component in the character variety of a genus 2 surface is the
Teichmüller space, with proper action of the mapping class group. We
exhibit another one which may be viewed as a configuration space of
six points in the Poincaré disc and show that the mapping class group
acts ergodically on it (joint work with M. Wolff).
