Conference homepage: http://orsay2011.info
The participants are invited to book their acommodation themselves. The department has no possibility to do it anymore due to a complicated administrative procedure. Here some hints that may be useful (all the hotels below are in the price range 60-70 euros/night).
There are just two hotels at walking distance from the department (<1 km):
Hotel d'Orsay (2 rue François Leroux, 91400 Orsay, Tel: +33 220.127.116.11.47, Fax: +33 18.104.22.168.48)
Residhome Bures (1A rue de la Guyonnerie, 91440 Bures sur Yvette, Tel: +33 22.214.171.124.00, Fax: +33 126.96.36.199.01)
the both may be full due to a large number of university visitors...
Another hotel which is used frequently by the visitors of the University is Hôtel Le Village (4 rue Neuve, 91190 Gif-sur-Yvette, Tel: +33 188.8.131.52.51 - Fax : +33 184.108.40.206.93) situated in Gif-sur-Yvette, a village next to Orsay, it is not exactly at a walking distance (around 2,5 km), but just 3 stations by the train (RER B station "Gif-sur-Yvette"), so the commuting is quite easy.
The Hotel de Coupieres (27 rue Juliette Adam, 91190 Gif sur Yvette, Tél. +33 1.69.07.50.83, Fax. +33 220.127.116.11.23) is at 300 meters from the previous one.
If you book one of the hotels above, mention that you are visiting the university, they have special prices.
The following hotels in Paris seem to have the easiest access to the campus:
Hôtel du Parc Montsouris (4 rue du Parc Montsouris, 75014 Paris, Tel : 01 45 89 09 72 - Fax : 01 45 80 92 72), it is at several minutes walking from the station RER B Cite Universitaire, 25 minutes to Orsay-Ville
Hotel Beauvoir (43 avenue Georges Bernanos, 75005 Paris, Tel. +33 18.104.22.168.10, Fax: +33 22.214.171.124.87), it is just in front of the RER B station Port-Royal at 30 minutes from Orsay-Ville.
You can also use a standard list of hotels used by the department: list. Standard booking sites like Booking.com or HRS.com can be useful too. Please note that the booking site HotelsCombined.com offered us a 10% rebate as a part of their conference support program (how to use it).
There are a also a number of private studios in the towns around the campus (Orsay, Bures, Gif and so on) which are in general cheaper than the hotels. To see available offers please fill out this form (you will need the coordinates of the laboratory which you are visiting, copy them from here)
