The notion of a flow category, going back to Cohen-Jones-Segal, offers an algebraic way of packaging information from higher-dimensional moduli spaces. This gives access to potentially finer information than Floer homology. While this has already been used with much success in low-dimensional topology, constructions of flow categories in symplectic topology are rarer due to transversality issues. I will discuss the construction of a flow category in the setting of contact topology, which lifts contact homology. The emphasis will be on the conceptual inputs rather than technical details.
