Motion from the Laboratory regarding the management hub

Following the laboratory's general assembly on Friday, October 17, the members of the Orsay Mathematics Laboratory (LMO) voted in favor of the motion below with almost all votes cast (out of 349 registered members, 258 voted, including 235 in favor, 1 against, 6 abstentions, and 16 non-votes).

The members of the Orsay Mathematics Laboratory, meeting in general assembly on Friday, October 17, 2025, welcome the recognition by the supervisory bodies, Université Paris-Saclay and CNRS, of the alarming understaffing of the LMO's administrative department, a situation that has persisted for several years. They acknowledge the additional resources promised by the supervisory bodies during their representatives' visit to the LMO on Wednesday, October 15, namely:

— for Université Paris-Saclay, a new management position, available immediately as a 3-year fixed-term contract co-financed by UPSay and the LMO, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position at the end of this period, as well as the possibility of appointing a second deputy director of the LMO;

— for the CNRS, the reopening of the position of Secretary General of the LMO for a start date as soon as possible, the creation of a new permanent position of Financial Officer, to be recruited by the future Secretary General of the LMO, with a start date in September 2026, as well as emergency support from the regional delegation.

LMO members are nonetheless concerned by the practical implementation of these measures, as well as problems that will persist within the management team until they are fully implemented. They extend their deepest gratitude to the management team and the members of the management team for all the intensive compensatory work they have done and continue to do, far exceeding what is normally required. Without their daily dedication, the laboratory could no longer function.
