Measure equivalence is an equivalence relation that classifies countable groups according to their actions on measured spaces. Mapping class groups provide a key example of groups that are rigid in mesure equivalence. I will introduce the notion of measurable embeddings as an asymmetric weakening of measure equivalence. Then, I will explain that any measurable embedding of a mapping class group into itself is necessarily a measure equivalence.
